The family of murdered former Commissioners of Finance in Oyo State, Chief Ajibola Olanipekun has expressed disbelief that, eighteen years after the gruesome incident the Nigerian Police was yet to apprehend the killers

Penpushing reports that, Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was assassinated by suspected hired assassins in cold blood on 20th of June, 2003 in his private resident, in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital

The spokesman of the family, Chief Moyo Adewuyi ,speaking  during a prayer organised to mark the 18th years remembrance  of the deceased,  lamented that Olanipekun’s life was cut short in his prime during the time he was making progress in his law practice.

Penpushing further reports that Adewuyi, who was a family friend to the deceased expressed shock  that till now, no one knows the reason for Olanipekun’s assassination, pointing out that  the late legal luminary was a straight forward person who never engaged in shady business with anybody while alive.

“Olanipekun faced his legal practice after he was removed as commissioner by Kolapo Ishola and was making progress, he became SAN after he left office as the commissioner. His killers got him 100 days after he was first attacked by the unknown assassins”, he recalled

Penpushing also reports that son of the deceased; Jubril Olanipekun who spoke on behalf of the family said that his late father  was an accomplished man who stands out among his peers, adding that the family is upholding the legacy he left behind.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Police, Adewale Osifeso could not be reach as at the time of this report, while several efforts also proved abortive.
