2023 Presidential debate: Voice of Women inaugurates committee, headed by penpushing member Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi

The 6th edition of the annual Voice of Women Conference Awards (VOW2022) has inaugurated a 7-man committee headed by Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi Executive Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC) and a frontline member of Penpushing platform.

Penpushing reports that, the conference is to engage all Presidential Candidates of various political parties in Nigeria, ahead of the 2023 general elections, with invitations already extended to the candidates

The other members include Cynthia Mbamalu, Director of Programs Yiaga Africa, Oluwatosin Dokpesi Managing Director, Princess Jummai Idonije, Senior Special AdviserMinister Women Affairs, Patience Dickson, Founder Advocacy for Women with Disability International (AWWDI), Seun Olagunju, Head of Corporate Communications Bank of Industry and Aisha Falke, Founder Northern Hibiscus.

Penpushing further reports that, the 6th edition of is scheduled for 25 October 2022 at Nigerian Airforce (NAF) Conference Centre Abuja and will be broadcast live on national television, radio and online platforms to reach Women across the 36 states of Nigeria.

The chairperson of the conference noted that Voice of Women (VOW) annual conference is a welcome development to gender equality discourse and another opportunity to set a gender agenda in view of the 2023 election year.

Penpushing further reports that, Akiyode-Afolabi, a human rights activist and reputable legal practitioner on behalf of the committee, congratulated Women Radio for creating the platform for engaging policy.

The Chief Executive Officer of Women Radio 91.7 Toun Okewale- Sonaiya in her remarks explained that each member represents expertise from diverse fields adding that the organisers  are confident that the committee will diligently work to interpret and implement the mission of Voice of Women.

“VOW2022 has extended invitation to presidential candidates to attend in person to speak to women voters and representatives of the 47.1% Nigerian Women who voted in the 2019 elections’, Okewale-Sonaiya said

‘The candidates will be allotted equal time to present their 2023 and beyond plans and commitments to integrate Women into the National Agenda. 500 Nigerian women groups across the six geo political zones will attend the physical conference with others by virtual’, she added.
