The Senatorial Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has warned Governorship Candidate of All Progressives Congress(APC), Senator Olamilekan Adeola to desist from a deliberate act of blackmail designed to tarnish her integrity and mislead the public.

Penpushing reports that Obasanjo gave the caution note to Adeola, popularly called ‘Yayi’, while appearing on a live radio programme, in reaction to Adeola’s claim that she demanded millions of naira and dollars from him before leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The known fearless and frankly speaking politician vehemently rejection Adeola’s allegation in its entirety, describing it as baseless, adding that what she found out about Yayi is lack of trust, and integrity, as well as trustworthiness

Penpushing further reports that she insisted that the disagreement between them had nothing to do with money but everything to do with broken promises and what she described as disrespect following the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) consensus governorship arrangement.

“What I find uncomfortable with Yayi is lack of trust. Yayi has trust deficit. He lacks integrity and should not be taken seriously. What he has done is playing the politics of blackmail. I can never trust him again in my life’, Obasanjo declared

Penpushing also reports that faulting Yayi’s allegation that she demanded reimbursement of campaign expenses running into millions of naira and dollars, declared that there was no such discussion during their meeting which was witnessed by leaders of the ruling party then

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo recalled that after she accepted All Progressives Congress(APC) consensus decision and dissolved her governorship campaign organisation in May 2026,  Adeola initiated contact by formally requesting a meeting with her.

Penpushing reports that she explained that the meeting was held at his instance in her(Obasanjo) residence and centred on how both camps could work together following the governorship primary process.

The former governorship aspirant stated that rather than demanding personal financial compensation, she explained that, representatives of her political tendency presented three proposals aimed at fostering unity within the party.

Penpushing further reports that she explained that those proposals, included possible inclusion of at least three of her loyal supporters in his(Adeola’s) campaign structure, and support for her eventual aspiration to represent Ogun Central in the Senate.

The frankly speaking Obasanjo said Adeola promised to consult widely and revert within one week, adding that six weeks later, there was no response, recalling that the prolonged silence convinced her that she and her supporters had not been treated with the respect they deserved.

Penpushing also reports that she disclosed that, that experience, became a major factor in her eventual decision to resign from All Progressives Congress (APC) before later accepting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial ticket.

The Senatorial Candidate pointed out that now that she no longer contesting governorship but Senate, wondered why anyone would assume financial inducement could influence her political decisions.

“What drives me, unlike them, is not transactional politics—buying people’s votes with money. He thinks everyone has a price that can be bought. When I was Commissioner for Health in 2003, he probably had not started politics. When I became Senator in 2011, he was in the Lagos State House of Assembly,” she said

Penpushing reports that she recalled serving as Ogun State Commissioner for Health in 2003 before later representing Ogun Central in the Senate in 2011, maintaining that her political career had been built on service, credibility and grassroots engagement rather than financial inducement.

“When I was Commissioner for Health in 2003, he probably had not started politics. When I became Senator in 2011, he was in the Lagos State House of Assembly’, Obasanjo emphasised.

Penpushing further reports that she equally referenced the humanitarian work of her Iyaniwura Foundation, which she said had empowered thousands of people over the years without attaching political conditions.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate said leadership must be anchored on credibility, insisting that integrity remains the most valuable currency in politics.

“We do real empowerment and touch many lives. We didn’t start helping people because of elections. Service has always been part of who we are. In politics, your word is your bond’, she stated.
