Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have abducted an unspecified number of students, sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO at Government Day Secondary School in Lassa town, Askira Uba local government area of Borno State.
Penpushing Borno State Police Command Public Relations Officer Daso Kenneth, who confirmed the incident explained that the students were sitting for Biology when the insurgents attacked on Monday morning.
The police spokesperson added that a combined effort by the police, the military, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) helped save other students, however, said an unknown number of students were abducted.
Penpushing further reports that Kenneth said as at the time of filing this report security personnel which include military, police, and civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) were on the trail of the insurgents.
“That’s what we know for now. But the military, police, and civilian JTF are currently in the bush, combing the areas for the possible chances of rescuing the hostages’, he emphasized
Penpushing also reports that the spokesperson of the National Examinations Council (NECO) Azeez Sani, said the examination body was not aware of the development and could not speak about it.
Meanwhile, the 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal kicked off on Monday, June 15, 2026 and will run through Thursday, July 23,2026.
