The purchase of garri and sachet water which resulted into a dispute and escalated into deadly violence in Kokami Village, Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State, has resulted in death of two people.

Penpushing reports that sources explained that the incident occurred on April 4, 2026, involved Ibrahim Auwal and a trader identified as Joe, also known as K.C. Jones, and when the disagreement turned violent Jones allegedly stabbed Auwal during at his shop.

The man (Auwal) was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai, where he was later confirmed dead, which triggered a reprisal attack, as some youths in the community reportedly mobilised, attacked Jones, killed him, and set his body ablaze along a nearby highway.

Penpushing further reports that the Katsina State Police Command Public Relations Officer Abubakar Aliyu in a statement said the command has arrested four suspects in connection with the mob killing.

The police spokesperson, in the statement on Sunday, said officers responded promptly to the incident and restored calm in the area, adding that the arrested suspects as at the time of filing this report are in custody, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Penpushing also reports that the Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, condemned the violence and urged residents to report disputes to security agencies rather than resort to mob action, while the state government equally condemned the incident, describing it as deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, in a statement said the violence stemmed from a personal dispute and should not be misinterpreted as an ethnic or religious conflict.

Penpushing reports that Mu’azu declared that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands, stressing that all those involved will be brought to justice, adding that security personnel have been deployed to the area, with joint patrols ongoing to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, the statement stated that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, commiserated with the families of the victims and urged community leaders to promote peace.
