All the six crew of American soldiers in an aircraft U.S. KC-135 known for refueling and conveying them have died following a crash in western Iraq, while flying over friendly airspace March 12 during Operation Epic Fury.
Penpushing reports that Iran-linked Iraqi militant group has claimed responsibility for shooting down the plane on Thursday, but the United States of America (USA) insisted the aircraft was not brought down.
The United States of America (USA) Central Command on X confirmed the crash and death of the soldiers, explaining that the aircraft, which is used to refuel fighter planes mid-air was lost while flying over friendly airspace
“All six crew members aboard a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft that went down in western Iraq are now confirmed deceased. The aircraft was lost while flying over friendly airspace March 12 during Operation Epic Fury,” the US Central Command wrote on X.
“The circumstances of the incident are under investigation. However, the loss of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire. The identities of the service members are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified’, the statement read
Penpushing reports that in another development the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has disclosed that at least 3.2 million people have been displaced in Iran since the America and Israel joint strike began on February 28, 2026.
The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) raised concerns about the brewing humanitarian crisis in the country as both the America and Israeli militaries continued their bombardment and military campaign.
“Most of them are reportedly fleeing from Tehran and other major urban areas towards the north of the country and rural areas to seek safety. This figure is likely to continue rising as hostilities persist, marking a worrying escalation in humanitarian needs’, the body said.
