The Lagos Chapter of the League of Veteran Journalists has cancelled its annual lecture scheduled for December 16, 2025 in honour of the memory of one of its founding members, Mr Akinola Ariyo who died recently during a protracted illness.

Penpushing reports that the cancellation was contained in a joint statement by Chairman, Mr Gboyega Amoboye and the Secretary, Gbenga Onayiga of the League, explaining that no sacrifice would be too much to make in honour of a fallen and strong believer in the association.

The statement described the deceased as a consummate and passionate photo Journalist, who put in his best over the years and distinguished himself as one-time, financial secretary of Lagos Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)NUJ and a strong member of the League of Veteran Journalists (NUJ)

“He had put in his best all over the years and distinguished himself as one time, the Financial Secretary of Lagos NUJ and a strong member of the League of Veteran Journalists’, the statement read

Penpushing further reports that the association in the statement made available by its secretary, Otunba Gbenga Onayiga expressed heartfelt condolences to the deceased family and the entire media community.

‘Meanwhile, the League has offered unreserved apologies to all invitees especially the Guest Lecturer and dignitaries for the unexpected cancellation of the event. May his soul rest in peace’, the statement added.
