The Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun State, Samson Popoola has raised alarm that the pace of industrial development springing up along Abeokuta–Sagamu interchange risk becoming nightmare for road users.

Penpushing reports that Popoola raised alarm in a post on his Facebook page emphasizing that unless deliberate action is taken, the area risks degenerating into replica of notorious Apapa Wharf Road logjam in the nearest future.

The chairman who described the corridor as commendable, however, pointed out that it also signals an urgent red flag, stressing that the encouragement of the present linear industrial development as opposed to a dedicated hub far from the main road and equipped with security and social amenities potent a grave danger when all these industries are fully operational.

Penpushing further reports that he said to avert this, it is imperative that some measures be incorporated into ongoing and future development plans, which include dedicated service lanes to separate industrial haulage from regular traffic.

The other measures are adequate setbacks and right-of-way protection to allow for future road expansion and other critical backup facilities to service the rapidly growing industrial presence, and road furniture and traffic management Infrastructure (signage, lay-bys, drainage, pedestrian walkways, etc.) to ensure orderly flow and safety.

Penpushing also reports that Popoola stated that one or two overhead turning points to allow for turning around without endangering oncoming vehicles, thus eliminating some of the turning points that have witnessed some fatal accidents in the past.

The Venerable added that said the thoroughfare crossings at Siun and Kobape need to be redesigned to eliminate the current T-crossing, stressing that this is a critical window for proactive intervention.

‘Early planning will save the state and nation billions in future remedial costs and safeguard the competitiveness of this emerging industrial hub. We strongly urge the relevant agencies to act swiftly before the situation slips beyond control’, he added.
