The Nigerian government has cancelled the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, 1st October, 2025, adding that it it deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by the cancellation

Penpushing reports that Director, Information and Public Relations Segun Imohiosen made the announcement in a statement, however, stated and assured that all other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect.

The statement added that the federal government appreciates the understanding, support and cooperation of all Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests, and urged Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Tinubu in making Nigeria a greater nation.

Penpushing further reports that Imohiosen said the cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm.

The Government has, however, declared Wednesday, 1st October, 2025 as public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, while congratulating all Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora on this historic occasion.

Penpushing also reports that Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, this known in a statement on Monday and enjoined citizens to continue to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since independence in 1960.

The statement signed by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani urged Nigerians to further keep faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

Penpushing reports the Minister in the statement expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.
