Gunmen have killed at least 10 people in Ogboji, a community situated in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State when the bandits launched an attack on Monday, while the latest attack occurred less than a week after police confirmed that gunmen killed a man and abducted another in separate attacks in two communities.

Penpushing reports that sources said the incident happened at about 6p.m. adding that most of the victims were from Ebonyi State, also in the South-East of Nigeria, and that the victims were holding their monthly meeting when the hoodlums attacked them.

The sources in the community said the armed persons accused the indigenes of holding the meeting against them, and demanded for their minute book, which was subsequently seized, and thereafter rained bullets on them

Penpushing further reports that the witnesses said as at the time of filing this report 13 persons were killed at the spot, while the identities of the assailants were yet-to-be-ascertained.

The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Tuesday confirmed the attack and killings adding that the gunmen stormed the area in two SUVs and attacked some residents without provocation.

Penpushing also reports that Ikenga, a superintendent of police explained that the victims were later rushed to hospital, where ten of them as at the time of filing this report were confirmed dead, while the corpses deposited in the morgue

The spokesperson said the police command has assured that it would track down the killers, stressing that a joint security team led by the police had been deployed in the area and were already working to apprehend the attackers.

Penpushing reports that President of the Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State Chigozie Nweke has condemned the deadly attack and asked authorities to investigate it, and that Governor Charles Soludo should do everything within his powers to fish out the attackers.
