The abductors of Chairman Ward 6 of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifon town of Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, have killed him after collecting N5 million ransom.

Penpushing reports that a community leader of Ifon who spoke anonymously confirmed the sad incident adding that as at the time of filing this report the corpse of the victim was yet to be located in the forest.

The Chairman of Ose local government Clement Ojo reacting to the development expressed sadness at the murder of Adepoyigi, lamenting the high rate of kidnappings in the area.

“We are now at a critical juncture where security challenges have become a serious threat to the safety and freedom of our people,” he said. Only a few days before this incident, another resident narrowly escaped being kidnapped while parking his motorcycle. This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension’, he said

Penpushing further reports that Ojo stressed the need for urgent intervention from security agencies to re-strategise and respond promptly to intelligence reports and equally recommended the deployment of security personnel and infrastructure to vulnerable communities in Ose local government and surrounding areas, as well as improved surveillance, patrols, and community collaboration to detect and deter criminal elements.

The council boss called for the swift arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of this heinous crime to serve as a deterrent to others.forever remembered and honoured.

Penpushing reports that the kidnappers had earlier demanded for N100 million and later reduced to N5 million with food items, however, when the bearers of the money and food items were at the forest to deliver, the kidnappers seized them and subsequently made a fresh demand of N30 million to secure the release of the three captives.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Olutokunbo Afolabi, said the police could not immediately ascertain the killing but had deployed special officers to Ifon to investigate the matter, while sources said the seized bearers of the ransom had regained their freedom
