The Finnish government has charged, Simon Ekpa, controversial Biafra agitator with terrorism offences ahead of his trial, while it is recalled that he arrested alongside four others on November 21, 2024 on suspicion of terrorist activities.

Penpushing reports that the charges were filed on Friday while the case is scheduled to be heard in the Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti, as the prosecutor added that the charges are linked to Ekpa’s secessionist activities in South-East of Nigeria.

The Deputy Prosecutor General in Finland charged the 40-year-old Nigerian-Finnish citizen, who heads Autopilot, a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), with public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent and participation in a terrorist group.

Penpushing further reports that the Biafra agitator is suspected of spreading separatist propaganda from his home in Lahti, while record has it that the Finnish police have been investigating the case alongside the Nigerian government.

The Finnish police emphasized that Ekpa has contributed to violence and crimes against civilians in South-Eastern Nigeria, while the District Court of Päijät-Häme later ordered that the pro-Biafra agitator be imprisoned with probable cause on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.”

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that hours after Ekpa’s arrest, the Nnamdi Kanu led faction of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), disowned him, explaining that he was never their member.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a group leading agitation for an independent state of Biafra, which it wants carved out from the south-east and some parts of south-south Nigeria, and the separatist group has been linked to some deadly attacks in the two regions, although it has repeatedly denied its involvement in the attacks.
