The Association of African Universities (AAU), have commended the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede on what the body described as extraordinary display of integrity, humility, and exemplary, over the system error experienced in the recently conducted examinations for admissions into Nigerian universities.

Penpushing reports that in a commendation letter signed by the Secretary General of the association Prof Olusola Oyewole dated May 15, 2025 said the admission of the errors by Oloyede was a clear demonstration of accountability, honesty, and courage, as well as values that are rare but deeply needed in today’s public service.

‘Your recent public acknowledgment of the system error experienced in the recently conducted examinations for admissions into Nigerian universities is a clear demonstration of accountability, honesty, and courage — values that are rare but deeply needed in today’s public service’, the letter reads.

‘In openly taking responsibility and showing empathy towards the students who may have been affected, you have not only elevated the standard of public leadership in Nigeria but have also restored confidence in institutional integrity across Africa’, Oyewole wrote.

Penpushing further reports that the body pointed out that the humility and remorse displayed by Oloyede publicly, along with his commitment to address the challenges transparently, are commendable.

The letter emphasized that his actions are indeed a breath of fresh air in a system where accountability is often elusive, adding that Oloyede has shown the world that not all Nigerian leaders are heartless or inconsiderate.

Penpushing also reports that the Association of African Universities declared that the registrar has personified ethical leadership in its truest form, stressing that the body is proud of him as a model of excellence.

‘The Association of African Universities is proud of you and celebrates you as a model of excellence, integrity, and transformational leadership in African higher education and governance’, he stated.

‘May your example inspire many more leaders across our continent. Please accept our highest regards and congratulations for your continued service to the Nigerian people and to Africa at large’, Oyewole added.
