Torrential rainstorm has rendered many residents homeless while properties worth millions of naira destroyed in Imeko town and environs located in Imeko-Afon local government area of Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that the rainstorm which lasted for hours blown off roof of number of houses a development which rendered residents helpless, as they were huddled together in fear.

The areas affected include Kongo, Lafenwa/Surulere, Kogo road, Obolo road, Idi-oro, Area 5 Junction Lafenwa, Oke Igbere, Secretariat road, Obatedo, Araromi street, Loye street, Odi-Olowo among others.

Penpushing further reports that some of the victims which include Pastor Olugbile Israel Adebayo of The Christ Preachers Bible Church, Jesutedo Kongo Imeko recounted the harrowing experiences.

The cleric disclosed that many had to stay out all night to protect the remains of their properties from theft, while Mrs. Gloria Babatunde in her narration said rebuilding their damaged houses and other properties as well as businesses will take a toll on their finances.

Penpushing also reports that the Chairman of the local government Hon Theophilus Olorode on visit to the scenes consoled the victims reiterating the need for sensitization campaign to educate the citizenry on the need for a conscious.

The council boss said there was need on the importance of storm breakers around the town to avoid future occurrence, however, pledged that his administration will work assiduously to seek for help and relief from both federal and state government.

Penpushing reports that he urged the people to desist from living in dilapidated buildings and call the attention of relevant constituted authorities to any defective structures around them as this may save lives and properties during torrential rainfalls.

Meanwhile, a statement made available by Head of Information of the local government, Ayoola Obadimu said present at the assessment visit are top political functionaries and members of the public within Imeko/Afon Local Government area.
