Sports Festival: Ogun state sports commissioner conducts sports journalists round centres

The Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka on Thursday conducted Guild of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, on media facility tour to centres for the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled between May 16 to 30, 2025

Penpushing reports that Isiaka took the senior sports writers to Moshood Abiola International Stadium at Kuto and Alake Sports Centre at Ijeja, Abeokuta to access the state of work at the designated centres for the tournament.

The Commissioner for Sports, declared that Ogun State is on track to deliver the most remarkable edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in the country’s history, emphasizing that final preparations are in full swing.

Penpushing further reports that he boasted and expressed confidence that the state’s readiness would set a new benchmark for future hosts, stressing that the host state is determined to deliver the best National Sports Festival Nigeria has ever seen

“We are not just ready—we are determined to deliver the best National Sports Festival Nigeria has ever seen. The facilities speak for themselves. We are working around the clock to ensure every necessary structure is firmly in place. From infrastructure to logistics, we’re leaving no stone unturned’, he added

Penpushing also reports that he emphasised the festival’s broader goals beyond sports competition, citing its potential to foster youth engagement, drive sports development, and combat social vices, adding this is more than just hosting a tournament but building a lasting legacy for sports development in Ogun State.

The commissioner applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for the sweeping transformation of the sporting infrastructure, pointing out the administration’s commitment to excellence in youth and sports development.

Penpushing reports that Isiaka explained that almost all facilities are completed, assuring that the few remaining ones are receiving final touches and will be ready before the commencement of the tournaments.

The Commissioner added that the government is committed to leverage on sports to take social vices, drug abuse off the minds of the teeming youths, explaining that the current administration was looking at the possibility of establishing a sporting system, as a good foundation was being laid through the hosting of the National Sport Festival.

“We want to use sports as a tool for social change. We believe that by investing in sports, we can empower young people and help them reach their full potential. We’re not just hosting a tournament; we’re building a legacy’, he said.

‘We are fully prepared. The facilities speak for themselves. We are working around the clock to ensure every necessary structure is in place. By the time the games begin, Ogun State will be more than ready”, Isiaka added.
