Tinubu confers posthumous honour on late chief of army staff Lagbaja

The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has posthumously honoured former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, conferring on him the title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) of Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that the widow of late army boss who died in November 5,2024 after a brief illness received the Nigeria’s third highest honour on his behalf at the burial ceremony held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The remains of Lagbaja, it is recalled arrived in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday, as Nigeria’s military top brass paid their respects, and thereafter escorted the remains down a red carpet at the presidential wing of the airport.

Penpushing further reports that a service of songs was later held at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground, Mogadishu Cantonment Abuja, followed with funeral service on Friday at the National Christian Centre followed with interment

The deceased was born on February 28, 1968, served as Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, while his military career began in 1987 at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992.

Penpushing also reports that Lagbaja throughout his service, commanded operations that were vital to national security, including Operation ZAKI in Benue, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in the Southeast, and Operation Forest Sanity in Kaduna and Niger states.

The late Lieutenant General who is survived by a wife, Mariya, and two children was an alumnus of the United States of America (USA) Army War College, held a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies, underscoring his commitment to military excellence and leadership.
