Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission announces umpires for council poll

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has released names of appointed electoral officers for the twenty local government areas of the state ahead of the November 16, 2024 council poll.

Penpushing reports that the electoral umpires as made known include Azeez Olalekan (Abeokuta North), Somoye Dauda (Abeokuta South), Balogun Akinyele (Ado-Odo/Ota), Yinusa Rasaki (Yewa North), Ademola Akinyele (Yewa South), Tijani Isiaka (Ewekoro), Zannus Sunday (Ifo), Oseni Lateef (Ijebu East), Ogunwo Johnson (Ijebu North) and Talabi Adebayo (Ijebu North East)

The other electoral officers are Akinsanya Abolaji (Ijebu-Ode), Otelaja Olusoga (Ikenne), Kehinde Joshua (Imeko-Afon), Ojuola Ayuba (Ipokia), Afuape Wale (Obafemi-Owode), Obatuyi Suraj (Odeda),Okubadejo Olugbenga (Odogbolu),Bello Olutola (Ogun Waterside),Shofolabo Eniitan (Remo-North) and Allison Musbau (Sagamu)

Penpushing further reports that the Chairman of the Commission, Babatunde Osibodu, however, announced the inauguration of newly appointed officers will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 held at the Conference Room of the Commission at 12:00 noon.

The chairman represented by the Commissioner in charge of Media and Civic Education, Mr. Ayodele Bankole, added that they have been appointed to oversee critical functions in the election process, and emphasized the importance of their role in ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election.

Penpushing also reports that he urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the electoral process, reminding them to maintain professionalism at all times.

“Your role in ensuring the credibility of this election is vital. We must remain focused and committed to transparency, fairness, and integrity, while communicating with respect and conducting ourselves with professionalism’, he added.

Penpushing reports that the commission boss assured that the electoral body remains committed to ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process, and urged all stakeholders, including the Electoral Officers, to adhere strictly to the guidelines set out for the elections, and to collaborate effectively to guarantee a credible outcome.

The chairman who disclosed that training for additional AdHoc staff will commence on Saturday, October 26, 2024, stressing that training for all categories of electoral staff will include best practices in election management, voter education, and conflict resolution, ensuring preparedness for any challenges on election day.
