Motorists plying Abeokuta-Ibadan road vice-versa were on Sunday cut off from getting to their destinations following erosion which took over the bad portion of the road within the axis of Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, Abeokuta.

Penpushing reports that motorists and passengers and their vehicles got stuck into the muddy portion of the road, which was the fallout of downpour, coupled with dilapidated federal government road which had been abandoned for years unattended to.

The findings, however, showed that, for motorists and passengers coming from Ibadan to Abeokuta, and those going from Abeokuta to Ibadan, were forced to disembark at each end of the area, while commercial drivers had to exchange passengers for onward journey to their various destinations.

Penpushing further reports that following the washed off road, passengers from each end of the road had to walk over to each end through the erosion to continue their journey with vehicles at the other end of the road, as alternative way to complete the trips.

The findings equally showed that for privately owned car owners, while some made detour and returned back to where they were coming from, others who were not residents of where they were coming from, had to abandon their vehicles, which already got stuck inside the muddy axis.

Penpushing also reports that one of the motorists, Chief Funsho Akinwale while narrating the ordeal in an interview said he was heading to Ibadan from Abeokuta, adding that after spending over one hour, and there was no solution, he decided to return to Abeokuta and stayed with family friend.

‘See what people are  passing through here, we are passing through hell at Osiele, Abeokuta-Ibadan road. See hold up, so much suffering here, we have spent more than one hour here in Osiele due to the bad road here, which government ought to have done, but which they neglect. People are suffering , those going to Ibadan cannot pass, everybody is hooked up here. Can you see,its a lot of suffering, so many people are here. This is federal government road, it has been neglected for so long, Ainwande said

‘As you can see, the flood has taken over the bad portion of the road. The erosion has even cut off the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through. See how passengers from Ibadan, walking through the erosion to join other vehicles from other end of the road’, he added.

‘This is same thing for passengers going to Ibadan from Abeokuta, they have to also walked through the erosion to join vehicles from Ibadan which also cannot have passage to Abeokuta, as only alternative way to complete journey’, the motorist emphasised

Penpushing reports that the motorist who lamented over the hardship, blame the Nigerian government for subjecting travellers to mental torture, stressing that it was unfortunate that such a busy road, which link two major cities have been neglected by the authorities
