Gunmen have beheaded and dismembered bodies of a couple Jacob Udo and Comfort in their residence in Isiala Community Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, as the police command equally confirmed the sad incident.
Penpushing reports that the couple hailed from Itumbuzor, a community within the same local government area while as at the time of filing this report no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The Abia State Police Command Public Relations Officer Maureen Chinaka, in a statement explained that the police authorities visited the scene, adding that the bodies of the victims were deposited at the mortuary, while investigation has commenced
‘We received the report yesterday at Bende Police Divisional Headquarters. The crime scene has been visited, exhibits recovered, and the bodies deposited at the mortuary’, Chinaka, an assistant superintendent of police said.
Penpushing further reports that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, reacting to the incident in a statement condemned the killing which he described as horrific and senseless.
The lawmaker representing Bende Federal Constituency in a statement by his spokesperson, Livinus Nwabughiogu, emphasized that the act of violence was unacceptable and violates the fundamental human right to life.
“The brutal murder of Mr Jacob Udo and his wife is an affront to humanity. No grievance or dispute can justify such violence. I urge the authorities to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice. We must all stand together against acts of violence and extremism while promoting tolerance and peaceful resolution of conflicts.”
Penpushing also reports that the deputy speaker, in the statement made available to journalists, however, called for calm and urged residents of the state to avoid actions that can escalate tensions.
