The former President of Institute of Directors (IOD) Nigeria, Chief Chris Olufunmilola Okunowo has been officially confirmed by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as the new Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu

Penpushing reports the confirmation of the seasoned businessman with major business interests in aviation equipment was made known in a statement by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which also affirmed his wife Morenikeji Okunowo as Yeye Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu.

‘The Association (CAN) officially confirms the selection of Chief Chris Olufunmilola Okunowo and Erelu Morenikeji Okunowo as the new Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu and YEYE Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu respectively.’, the statement read

Penpushing further reports that the religious body explained that the couple’s selection and confirmation of the prestigious titles are subsequent to their proven track records in diverse areas of service to the Christian Community in Ijebuland and beyond.

The statement added that, no doubt, the distinguished couple possesses the qualities and traits required to hold these esteemed positions in the Christian Community of Ijebu land, stressing that their interpersonal relationship beyond border, leadership prowess and dedication have consistently played significant roles at improving the life of humanity and enhancing the cultural heritage.

Penpushing also reports that the association emphasized that this has equally earned them respect and admiration among their peers, recalling that this was a factor for Awujale of Ijebuland. Oba Sikiru Adetona to have honoured him with the title of Bobasuwa II of Ijebuland  (the first Hereditary  Chieftaincy Title in Ijebuland).

The statement while congratulating Okunnowo and his wife pointed out that aside from the tile of   Bobasuwa II of Ijebuland, bestowed on the him by the foremost monarch in Nigeria, he has equally received various honorary titles in Yorubaland
