The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun on Saturday met with tactical commanders of police formations in the country, to be alert ahead of the proposed planned nationwide protest, adding that findings showed that it is suspected sponsors are behind the protest to destabilize the government.

Penpushing reports that Egbetokun gave the order when he held a meeting with the commanders in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), emphasizing that the meeting became necessary to guide against the planned protest, he said its a threat to national security

‘I am pleased to welcome you to this crucial conference, a key component of our Force’s management approach to regularly engage with tactical Commanders. Our objective is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the internal security situation, identify emerging threats, and develop effective countermeasures to strengthen our security posture’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that he stated that the objective of the meeting was to evaluate, discuss and implement swift professional attention, adding that persistent security challenges demand proactive measure

‘I address you today with a sense of urgency and patriotic zeal, commending your vital contributions to national security and the ultimate sacrifices made during joint military operations. Despite achievements, persistent security challenges demand our swift and professional attention’, Egbetokun added.

‘This meeting is prompted by imminent anti-government protests posing a significant threat to national security. Our objective is to evaluate, discuss, and implement effective operational strategies to ensure public safety and security’, he emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that Egbetokun while acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, however, pointed out that available intelligence report revealed that the planned protest is a deliberate attempt to destabilize the government and undermine public safety

The number one policeman in the country stressed that the force must leverage the expertise to develop and execute a robust plan addressing potential risks and challenges, drawing lessons from the 2020 #EndSARS protests

‘While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, available intelligence suggests the planned protest is a deliberate attempt to destabilize the government and undermine public safety. We must leverage our expertise to develop and execute a robust plan addressing potential risks and challenges’.

‘We must be vigilant and prepared to prevent chaos, drawing lessons from the 2020 #EndSARS protests. Our paramount objective is to safeguard public safety, maintain law and order, and protect citizens’ rights and well-being’, he emphasized.

Penpushing reports that he, therefore, directed the tactical commanders to withdraw personnel from non-essential duties, prioritize public order, and ensure sufficient armed personnel are on standby ahead of the planned protest.

‘I direct you to withdraw personnel from non-essential duties, prioritize public order, and ensure sufficient armed personnel are on standby. As tactical Commanders, your operational tact is pivotal in navigating this complex situation’, he added.

‘Ensure personnel are thoroughly briefed and prepared, maintaining continuous contact with state commands for effective communication and coordination. Prioritize de-escalation techniques, and remember that force should always be a last resort’, he said.

‘I emphasize the importance of professionalism, civility, and restraint, guided by the principles of justice and fairness. Let us embrace a proactive approach, anticipating potential threats and taking preventive measures’, Egbetokun stated.

Penpushing further reports that he pointed out that strict adherence to established protocols, code of conduct, and the rule of law is paramount, adding that every officer’s actions have a profound impact, reflecting on the entire Police Force.

‘In conclusion, I thank you for your commitment to serving and protecting Nigeria. Your courage, dedication, and professionalism are the bedrock of our police force. Together, let us ensure peace and security prevail’, he stated
