The Ogun State Police Command has killed two kidnappers on locating them in a bush where they were hiding along Sagamu- Ijebu-Ode expressway, and rescued one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, who were earlier kidnapped.

Penpushing reports that the Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu made this known on Wednesday while addressing journalists at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, adding that the victims rescued unharmed have reunited with their families.

The police boss recalled that it was reported that unidentified armed individuals, believed to be kidnappers, accosted a Toyota Rav 4 jeep with registration number AGL 16 JE, colored grey forcefully abducted the occupants of the vehicle, and fled towards Ijebu-Ode

‘On June 30, 2024, the Divisional Police Officer in Ikenne received a distress call reporting an incident at around 7:10 pm near Delabo junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway. It was reported that unidentified armed individuals, believed to be kidnappers, accosted a Toyota Rav 4 jeep with registration number AGL 16 JE, colored grey’, Alamutu said.

Penpushing further reports that the commissioner said the armed men, who emerged from an unregistered Venza car, fired four shots at the driver’s side tire and another at the rear side of the driver, forcing the vehicle to a stop.

‘Upon receiving the distress call, the Anti-kidnapping squad of the Ogun State Command was dispatched with explicit instructions to pursue the fleeing suspects. Through a covert operation, the suspects were located in a bush where they were hiding’, he added.

Penpushing also reports that Alamutu explained upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, the bandits engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team., adding that the anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects.

The boss stated that the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons, disclosing that exhibits recovered include: 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 5 AK 47K rifles, eight AK 47 magazines and two cell phones.

Penpushing reports that he emphasized that the command remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property, a primary duty for the officers, stressing that a rapid response team has been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route, with a call on the public to report individuals displaying gunshot wounds under reasonable suspicions.
