The Ogun State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya has charged the management level officers in the Ogun State Civil Service to continue to uphold high standard and remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence and effective management of public resources.

Penpushing reports that Onasanya gave the charge while declaring open a 2-day capacity building workshop with the theme “Efficient Management of Public Resources” held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The number one civil servant in the state pointed out that responsive stewardship of public resources is imperative for sustainable progress in a time like this, when global community is faced with unprecedented challenges.

Penpushing further reports that Onasanya, who is a veteran journalist added that training is a critical issue that resonates with the very fabric of the society, hence, its importance in achieving optimal productivity.

‘The State economy is anchored on strategic plans of Governor Dapo Abiodun through the administration’s ISEYA mantra, and civil servants as the engine room of government must be oiled through training and retraining, especially in efficient management of public resources’, he said.

Penpushing also reports that Onasanya explained that the training was packaged with the aim of improving the knowledge of participants on public resource management borne out of the performances of some Heads of Departments while appearing before the State House of Assembly in connection with the Auditors’ Reports on activities of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The Head of service emphasised that public resources, whether financial, natural or human constitute the lifeblood of the societal collective well-being and represent tangible manifestations of the social contract between citizens and government, therefore the need for training for efficient management of these resources to forestall mismanagement of the resources which could undermine the integrity of government and the public servants.

Penpushing reports that Onasanya appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun whom he described as the apostle of capacity building for the enhancement of the public service, and urged the participants to take full advantage of the training to horn their effective management skills.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bolaji Fajounbo earlier in her welcome address explained that the training was aimed at equipping the participants with knowledge, skills as well as best practices to ensure transparency and accountability for effective and efficient management of public resources.

Penpushing further reports that Fajounbo added that it is mandatory for every civil servant to acquire the required skill for efficient service delivery, and urged the participants to regularly update their knowledge of efficient management of public resources as people entrusted with public resources for trust and integrity.

The Permanent Secretaries in the Bureaux of Service Matters and Public Service Reforms, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora and Mr. Jola Oyeneye as well as the State Accountant and Auditors-General, Mr. Babatunde Aregbesola and Mr. AbdulLateef Balogun in their separate remarks enjoined the participants to take the advantage of the training to brace up their performances in efficient management of public resources to avoid untoward circumstances.

Penpushing also reports that the Permanent Secretaries equally advised the beneficiaries to take the training seriously as it would help them in their career progression when the need arises, while on his part, the training coordinator, Pastor Bimbo Alagbe said various topics have been outlined for the participants to fully digest and grow rich in the knowledge of management of public resources.
