The Ogun State Government has served contravention notice to owners of 135 structures, as part of enforcement of right-of-way to clear illegal structures, in preparation for the expansion and upgrade of Sango-Idiroko Road.

Penpushing reports that Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami, made this known while addressing journalists during the enforcement exercise, disclosing that the contract for the rehabilitation of the road was awarded by the federal government.

The Commissioner represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning Compliance and Enforcement, Mr. Babatunde Olugbewesa, explained that two bridges would be erected along the road to decongest vehicular activities in the area.

Penpushing further reports that the Commissioner explained that encroachment on alignment of the road which had already been defined, necessitated the need to recover the right-of-way, adding that road as international route is important to the economic wellbeing of the country at large.

‘The road is an international road that is very important to the economic wellbeing of the state and the country, as it links Nigeria to Benin Republic via Idiroko border. Over time, people illegally encroached upon the right-of-way by placing metal containers and expanding their property boundaries to the road, leading to road congestion, especially road sellers at Oju-irin, Iyana Iyesi and Iyana Atan”, he said.

Penpushing also reports that he urged the people to cooperate with government in its efforts to sanitise the area and remove illegal structures, for work to immediately commence, advising traders to stay within the set boundaries to do their businesses rather than displaying wares indiscriminately.
