Ten underaged Nigerian girls which include two of same parents have been trafficked to Ghana for prostitution while their ages ranged between 15 and 18 years, as revealed in a viral video which has gone worldwide.

Penpushing reports that a video clip uploaded on X on Friday, showed the girls inside a room being interrogated by an unidentified man, while the girls were also heard making confessional statement on their trip to the West African country as sex hawkers

The interrogation by the unidentified man revealed that seven of the girls’ hail from Imo State, South-East of Nigeria while three of them disclosed that they are from Jos in Plateau State, North-Central of the country.

Penpushing further reports the girls confirmed to have spent between one and two months in Ghana to engage in prostitution, while three of them who are siblings, explained that a brother to one of them trafficked them to Ghana.

The girls confessed during interrogation that on arrival at Ghana their mobile phones were seized adding that money made in the course of sleeping with men are being collected by the traffickers who brought them into the country

Penpushing also reports that in another video clip uploaded on the same X handle, the suspected Nigerian trafficker admitted trafficking the girls to the country, adding that he received 200 Ghana Cedis daily as proceeds from the girls’ prostitution, and that the girls claimed to be up to 20 years old

The Chairperson of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation, Callistus Elozieuwa, was however, seen in another clip, saying the suspect has been arrested, after a tip off that a Nigerian man brought them to Ghana

“We got a tip-off yesterday that one Nigerian guy brought these ladies here, beat them up, maltreated them and sent them for prostitution. So, we sent our rescue team to go for the girls. We went there this morning, fortunately we were able to get all of them from the guy’s room. And we were able to apprehend the guy. He’s in police custody here’, Elozieuwa said.

Penpushing reports that as at the time of filing this report the spokesperson of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Zachariah Duada that the agency was already working to take custody of the girls.

Meanwhile, in 2015 Nigeria enacted the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act which outlawed all acts of human trafficking in the country, and the Act prescribes a minimum penalty of between five- and 10-years imprisonment and a fine of N1 million for the trafficking of children, depending on the purpose of such trafficking.
