The former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday empowered 150 indigenes of Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, as well as extending gestures to communities and health centres.

Penpushing reports that the empowerment under the Owu Empowerment Foundation (OEF) held at Olowu palace saw beneficiaries going home with 50 laptops, 20 Deep Freezers, 20, Grinding Machines, Generators and Hair Dryers Sewing Machines

The donor represented by his media aide Alhaji Bola Adeyemi pointed out that the foundation is known for supporting the indigenes of the ancient kingdom, and called on the beneficiaries to make use of the products judiciously.

Penpushing further reports that the former Governor emphasized that it was with great honor that he empowered his kinsmen and women, explaining that those who made the beneficiaries list should see it as an opportunity to improve themselves.

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof) Saka Matemilola in his remarks noted that the empowerment is not freebies, but an opportunity to better life of the beneficiaries and therefore call on them that it should be seen as way for them to give back to society at the appropriate time.

Penpushing also reports that the monarch, however, encouraged the beneficiaries to use the products judiciously and avoid swapping or selling it out for any reason, stressing that whoever was caught doing contrary would be sanctioned and deny future opportunity of similar gestures.

The traditional ruler who expressed delight on the empowerment programme emphasized that failure on part of the beneficiaries not to use them judiciously might discourage the foundation to extend same gestures to other would-be beneficiaries

‘OEF is empowerment and not freebies, please make use of it judiciously, you can also be a donor through the gain from this empowerment. If you use it well it will encourage people to come and donate as well. But if you didn’t use it well, it might discourage other people who are willing to empower people through the foundation and it will affect others who were supposed to benefit in the future”.

Penpushing reports that Chairman Board of Trustees Dr. Banji Oyegbami in his response appreciated Amosun for his kind gesture of empowerment, calling on other meaningful personalities in Owu to emulate the gestures by contributing their quota.

The Chairman described the donor as exemplary and worthy of emulation by all, stressing that the  gesture was a challenge to highly placed and blessed Owu sons and daughters to identify/partner with foundation to empower people.

‘Today’s empowerment is being single-handedly sponsored by Senator Ibikunle Amosun, we thank you from the depth of our hearts for this kind gesture. This act of SIA is exemplary and worthy of emulation by all. It’s a challenge to highly-placed and blessed Owu sons and daughters to identify /partner with OEF to empower our people”’, he added.

Penpushing reports that one of the officials Mrs. Oladele Deborah who received Deep Freezer on behalf of Apomu Arig Health Center stated that the Deep Freezer will serve as major factor for the center in preserving some of their injections.

The woman, however, recalled that the centre always have issues in preserving some of the injections as a result of non-availability of the product, expressing optimism that with the donation of the Deep Freezer, the burden has been lifted.

Penpushing further reports that other health centers that benefited from the empowerment programme include Health Center Igosun, Health Center Amororo, Health Center Kurere among others.
