Hundreds of dignitaries stormed the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State for the funeral service for the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, Dr Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizzy.

Penpushing reports that the remains of the family who died alongside others in a chopper crash in California United States of America (USA) on February 10,2024 were brought back to Nigeria on Friday ahead of the funeral service.

The Rivers State Governor arrived amid tight security, as well as security beef-up within Isiokpo and its surroundings, with Commissioner of Police in the State Olatunji Disu, leading security men to the venue, while, members of the clergy, traditional rulers from the Omoeke, Wigwe’s hometown and monarchs from Isiokpo were equally sighted.

Penpushing further reports that earlier on Friday family members and friends attended the Christian wake organised in honour of the deceased in the community, while it is recalled that the National Transportation Safety Board member, Michael Graham, along with investigator Aaron Sours, while giving details of the incident at a press briefing in Barstow, California, confirmed that all six individuals on board the helicopter were fatally injured in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board member in additional explained that there was a report of a fire outbreak during the incident, stressing that witnesses confirmed this and that the aircraft did not contact the terrain

Penpushing also reports that President Bola Tinubu in his post described Wigwe as a distinguished banker, humanitarian, and entrepreneur, adding that the passing of the family was an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension
