The Oyo State Chairman of Tipper, Lorry and Quarry Park Management System (PMS) Akeem Akintola, popularly called ‘Kuso’ was on Saturday kidnapped by gunmen at his residence in the Ajiboye area, Omi Apata, Ibadan.
Penpushing reports that a source disclosed that the gunmen stormed Akintola’s residence in the early hours of Saturday and abducted him to an unknown destination, while as at the time of filing this report, the abductors were yet to contact the family
The Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso as at the time of filing this report could not be reached, while there was no official statement to confirm or deny the ugly development
Penpushing further reports that in a related development the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof Godwin Emezue was abducted from a petrol station at Umuekwule, Amachara, a community in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
The source said the university don was said to have driven into the station alongside his wife to buy fuel for their vehicle on Friday night when the gunmen numbering about three attacked them and subsequently dragged the professor into their waiting Lexus SUV, collected his wife’s ATM card and zoomed off.
Penpushing also reports that the university spokesperson Chijioke Nwogu when contacted said the police in the state have confirmed that there was a kidnap attack in Umuahia on Friday, but that the university only heard of Emezue’s kidnap through the social media.
The Abia State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, however, confirmed the incident in a statement made available on Saturday, explaining that the incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
‘The Abia State Police Command is deploying resources and assets including intelligence and technical aid towards unravelling the crime, safely rescuing the victim from his captors’, Chinaka stated in the statement
Penpushing reports that Chinaka, an assistant superintendent of police, encouraged residents of the state to remain calm, vigilant and security conscious while going about their legitimate activities, and equally appealed to them to cooperate with the police by providing useful information that could help in tracking down the hoodlums as well as enhancing security in the state.
