The Ogun State Head of Service, Kolawole Fagbohun has counselled management team of Ministry of Justice to embrace the use of electronic evidence and comply with the ethical rules and regulations guiding the civil service for effective service delivery.

Penpushing reports that Fagbohun made the call while delivering a paper titled, “Effective Collaborating: Integrating Ethics and Discipline Across Job Categories”, at the 3rd Annual Management Retreat for Law Officers, organised by the Ministry of Justice, with the theme, “Re-jigging the Capacity of Management Staff of the Ministry of Justice for Effective Service Delivery”, at Ogere in Ikenne local government area of the state

The Head of Service represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, described ethics as traits expected of civil servants in promoting result-oriented services, as embodied by codes of conduct, which include, political neutrality, professionalism, impartiality, loyalty, moral rectitude among others, to enshrine competence and impartiality of the Public Service.

Penpushing further reports that he pointed out that expected growth and development could be achieved in civil service when workers adhere strictly to rules and regulations relating to terms and conditions of their employment.

The number one civil servant in the state emphasized that there were sources of information, as well as law books to assist them in the evaluation of ethical practices that would guide their operations in the civil service.

‘Optimal service delivery in the Civil Service is essential, hence, the Ministry is structured to ensure a fair and effective justice system within the confines of the constitution and laws of Ogun State”, Fagbohun stated.

Penpushing also reports that the Head of Service pointed out that collaboration with relevant stakeholders was key to the success of any organisation, saying a united workforce was crucial in achieving optimal service delivery.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade, while delivering his opening remarks, said the retreat was organised to re-assess activities of the previous year and re-strategise for the new year for better service delivery, in line with the ISEYA mantra of the present administration.

Penpushing reports that the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice urged the participants to continue to put in their best, adding that they would continue to enjoy the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

The Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Olusegun Olaotan, on his part explained that the retreat was an avenue to enhance the capacity of the management staff of the Ministry, in order to achieve the set goals for maximum productivity, assuring that participants would be equipped with needed knowledge to train their subordinates.

Penpushing further reports that in their separate lectures, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wemimo Ogunde (SAN) as well as a former Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adebisi Osolase advised Law Officers to imbibe the use of electronic evidence to be more useful in the digital age as the world had moved from hard copy to electronic evidence as well as artificial intelligence.

The retired Permanent Secretary who highlighted the features of public service, said it was a permanent government establishment in which employees enjoyed security of tenure, adding that the basic roles of public servants were to assist government in the formulation and implementation of policies.
