The Chairman of, Kaura Local Council of Kaduna State Mathias Siman has been impeached from office for alleged gross misconduct by nine out of ten following a motion moved by Hon Zachariah Achi, (Bandon ward) and seconded by Fidelis Kukwui (Zankang ward).

Penpushing reports that the chairman was accused of misappropriation and negligence, as well as awarding contracts to his private firm, contravening the Procurement Act, the conduct of public officials and due process.

The lawmaker who moved motion at the plenary within the legislative chamber on Tuesday accused Siman of awarding contracts for capital and ecological projects worth N153million to his company, SMK Nigeria Limited.

Penpushing further reports that he explained that the development was a gross violation of section 48 of the Local Government Administration Law of 2018 and the Kaduna State Public Procurement Law of 2016.

The lawmaker added that some of the contracts had been fully paid for with zero work done, while others were executed far below standard and some others exorbitantly inflated, and swift action the Speaker of the legislative council, Hon Stephen Atuk, pronounced that the chairman stands impeached effective from Tuesday 31st October 2023.

Penpushing also reports that the Speaker declared that the resolution was reached out of the collective desire of members of the legislative arm to secure the future of the local government for generations yet unborn.

The speaker emphasized that the legislature would not fold its arms watching the chairman running the council as a personal enterprise without recourse to due process, but reacting to the development the sacked chairman denied the allegations against him and explained that he was not served with an impeachment notice, neither was he called to defend himself.

Penpushing reports that the impeached council boss however, said he had accepted the decision in good faith and would move on with his lif, adding that he was not going to court, but pointed out on need for individuals to be patient with each other.
