Owu Baptist church celebrates 120 years anniversary, donates to charity homes

The Owu Baptist Church located in Totoro area of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital has kick-started its 120 years anniversary with donations to the orphans and leper’s colony as well as provision of electricity for the colony.

Penpushing reports that Chairman of the 120 years anniversary committee, Engr Nathaniel Oyedele, at a press conference held in the church said the church has grown rapidly, both spiritually and numerically, and will continue to help the needy

The chairman highlighted some of the achievements of the church which include construction and completion of three daughter churches: Alaafia Oluwa Baptist Church Ogbe, Alaafia Oluwa Baptist Church Olosun, and Alaafia Oluwa Baptist Church Kere/Eleyele

Penpushing further reports that Oyedele accompanied by Rev Josiah Adesope, and Prof Deacon Kayode Omoyinmi ,as well as number of church members at the press conference said the church also has a multi-purpose hall, known as “Dr. Ayorinde’s House”, a pastorium at Ita-Iyalode and social/benevolence programme.

The chairman added that the church in similar vein cushioned the effects of fuel subsidy for the church members and neighbors, and doled out palliatives which include financial support for the residents of the town.

Penpushing also reports that Oyedele stated that as part of the church’s contributions towards developmental growth of the nation, was producing nation leaders like the former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The chairman added that the church as part of its gestures to the society has rendered assistance towards the completion of church for the leper colony, and generously extended the use of a dedicated church transformer to the community.

Penpushing reports that the anniversary chairman affirmed a solid relationship between the church and other Christian bodies which include Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bible Society of Nigeria(BSN), among others

‘Owu Baptist church is in cordial relationships with other Christian bodies, such as the Bible Society of Nigeria, CAN, and CCN. We co-operate with Nigeria Baptist Convention, Ogun State Baptist Conference and the Ogun State Association’,Oyedele emphasied

Penpushing further reports that he highlighted programme of the anniversary as include charity visitation, on Thursday, October 19; novelty football match between Ibara Baptist Church Youth, and Owu Baptist Church Youth, on Sunday, October 25; anniversary/ evangelism rally, on Friday, October 20.

The other events are praise and prayer/ launching of church musical album, on Saturday, October 21; medical outreach, anniversary lecture, documentary on Sunday, October 22; and grand finale / anniversary thanksgiving /legacy projects and fundraising.

Penpushing also reports that notable personalities at the conference were; Rev Francis Umukoro, Chairman of Board Of Trustees, Engr (Chief) Tokunbo Odebunmi, Prince Adediran, Mr Sunday Makinde, Olusegun Odewole, Chief Kayode Adebiyi and Samuel Johnson among others.

Meanwhile, the anniversary committee visited the Stella Obasanjo Children Home situated at Government Reservation Area (GRA) and Lepers colony located in Iberekodo area of the ancient town and donated food items to the inmates.
