Gunmen have abducted three Catholic nuns and a seminarian, as well as a driver while they were heading to Imo State for a burial, and as at the time of filing this report, the abductors have contacted the missionary organisations for ransom.
Penpushing reports that the Vicar-General of the Missionary Daughters of Mater Ecclesiae in Nigeria Gloria Nnamchi confirmed the incident in a short note, posted on the official Facebook page of the Catholic Broadcast Commission of Nigeria.
The Vicar-General gave identities of the three abducted nuns as Rosemary Ejiowokeoghere, Maria Okoye and Josephine Chinyekwuo, as well as seminarian identified as Peter Eyakeno, while the driver is Emmanuel Awoke.
Penpushing further reports that Nnamchi, a Catholic nun in the statement explained that the hoodlums abducted the victims in the car conveying them, adding that the abductees were serving at the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The Vicar-General said the abductors have contacted the missionary organisation, and have asked for a ransom, just as she appealed to Catholic faithful to pray for the safe release of the victims who were still in captivity as at the time of this report.
Penpushing also reports that the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye, was as at time of filing this report yet to make any reactions or official statement over the ugly development.
