The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo has called for a day to be dedicated for annual celebration for children living and being raised at motherless homes, as a way to give the inmates sense of belongings in the society.
Penpushing reports that the traditional ruler made the call during presentation of consumables and other gift items to the inmates of the Stella Obasanjo Children Home located within Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta.
The monarch represented by Chief Yinka Kufile accompanied by members of his 80th birthday celebration, explained that the gestures were parts of activities marking the ceremony, stressing that the hapless children should at no time be relegated to the background.
Penpushing further reports that the monarch emphasized that there is hope for the inmates and appealed to well meaning Nigerians, on need for regular support for them, adding that, they(inmates) have every opportunity to be relevant in future
‘There is need to have a date dedicate for annual celebration of these children, and this is to give them sense of belongings. It is our responsibilities to make sure that the inmates grow up like any other children’, he emphasized.
Penpushing also reports that Gbadebo pointed out that it was important and necessary to give them parentage care and love, just as he commended the officials of the home for being proactive towards their welfare.
‘I want to call on Nigerians to let us give them parentage love. They have chances of becoming relevant in future. There is hope and future for them. On my own part I will make sure that I continued to be there for them at all time’, the monarch stated.
Penpushing reports that Director Child Development Services in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Adenike Ajala led other officials of the home to receive the items on behalf of the children who are the beneficiaries
The Kufile led birthday organizing committee, thereafter, visited the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Lantoro annex in the town to donate similar gifts items to the inmates, and as part of the week-long birthday ceremony, residents were offered free medical services.
The royal father in same vein commissioned Egba museum located within the palace in Ake, aimed to make the functionality of the museum, to be a continuum of other aspects of the history of the Egba, particularly with the development of the palace
