A couple has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly stealing their neighbour’s two-year-old son who was taken by the wife from one state to another, before the eventual arrest

Penpushing reports that Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed this on Thursday in Lafia while briefing journalists, adding that the father of the victim had earlier reported about the missing child to the police.

The Command Police spokesperson added that the victim’s father, Adamu Abdullahi of Orange Market Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, made the report on 13 August,2023 at about 3:30 p.m, adding that his two-year-old son had been missing for almost two weeks.

Penpushing further reports that Nansel told journalists that the complainant also told the police that he had received a phone call on the same day from an unknown person demanding a ransom of N2 million, adding that police detectives immediately swung into action following the report.

The Nasarawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer explained that efforts of the police detectives in search of the missing child, led to the arrest of the prime suspect and three accomplices, adding that the prime suspect is  a neighbour to the victim’s father.

Penpushing also reports that the command said, upon interrogation, the prime suspect confessed to having conspired with the other suspects, all of Orange Market, to steal the child, adding that the suspect equally disclosed   to the detectives that he handed the child over to his wife, who took him to Katsina State.

The police spokesperson said the police trailed the wife to Katsina State, arrested her and recovered the child, who was reunited with his parents, just as he added that in similar vein the command had arrested 14 suspects between July and August for various offences including kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism.

Penpushing reports that Nansel added that three guns and 11 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from some of the suspects, and however, cautioned residents to be security conscious, assuring that all the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of an investigation.
