The African Union (AU) has declared support for the position and decisions of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) in regards the troubled Niger Republic, following the sack of President Mohamed Bazoum by military junta.

‘The President of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat expresses his strong support for ECOWAS decisions on anti-constitutional change in Niger’, African Union said in a statement.
Penpushing further reports that President of the African Union (AU) condemned the detention of President Mohamed Bazoum and his family, describing it as illegal kidnapping which is unacceptable.
‘The President of the commission challenges the military authorities on the urgency of stopping the escalation with the regional organisation, mistrust of it and the continuation of the kidnapping of the President in worryingly deteriorating conditions,” the statement said.
Penpushing also reports that President of the African Union (AU), however called for the immediate release of the detained democratically elected President and all members of his family as well as government.
The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), it is recalled at the second emergency meeting on Thursday held to discuss Niger Republic called on African Union (AU) to endorse all the decisions it has taken on Niger.
Penpushing reports that the continental bloc of African States had initially given a 15-day ultimatum to the junta in Niger Republic to restore constitutional order, and this ultimatum expires on Saturday, just as it is also recalled that the coupists denied a joint team of African Union(AU), Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) and United Nations(UN) the chance to meet with the putschists.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in response to the reluctance of the coupists to hand over power to the democratically elected President, on Thursday authorised the immediate deployment of its standby force to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic.
