The Nigeria’s Asiwaju  Bola Tinubu on Tuesday presented his academic records obtained from Chicago State University in the United States of America(USA) to counter a suit lodged by Atiku Abubakar , Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)challenging his victory as President.

Penpushing reports that Tinubu tendered the academic records through his lead lawyer Wole Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) before the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The President in similar vein, presented the United States of America (USA) Embassy’s criminal record clearance letter to court  which also indicated that he was not arrested in the United States of America(USA).

Penpushing further reports that  Olanipekun after tendering tons of documentary evidence, told the five-member panel of the court headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani that a documentary foundation had been laid for Tinubu’s case, adding that the legal team will continue with oral evidence on Wednesday by calling witnesses.

The lead lawyer of Tinubu in furtherance of his quest to debunk allegations of fraud against Tinubu, tendered the immigration documents of Tinubu’s trips to America between 2011 and 2021, adding that the documents were certified by the Nigerian Immigration Service.

The lawyer of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Chris Uche, a  Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), however, at the  sitting and hearing opposed the admissibility of the documents.

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that in 2003, the then Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun, now deceased, had written to the America. Consular General in Lagos, requesting if Tinubu had any criminal record in the country.

The late police leadership enquiry it is also recalled followed letter written by the Alliance for Democracy (AD), a political party on whose platform Tinubu sought re-election as Governor of Lagos State in 2003, requesting confirmation of any criminal record of conviction to date against him

‘The screening committee of the Alliance for Democracy has written to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, requesting confirmation of any criminal record of conviction to date against Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the United States of America’ Balogun requested.

Penpushing reports that in response to Balogun’s letter dated 3 February 2003 the American Consulate in Lagos said the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), National Crimes Information Centre (NCIC) ran a check on Tinubu.

The legal attache at the America Consulate, Michael H. Bonner,  in the reply dated 4 February 2003 informed that the results of the checks were negative for any criminal arrest records, wants, or warrants for Tinubu.
