The commercial motorcyclists in Cameroon, a neighbouring country to Nigeria have been reported protesting the effects of the subsidy removal in Nigeria, in their country, lamenting that the hike in petrol price would force us to stop work.

Penpushing reports that Eons Intelligence, a Twitter account that publishes security reports, made this known in a tweeted video in which the protesters were speaking in French and Fulfulde, saying they are affected by the petrol subsidy removal in Nigeria.

The parts of the speech translated from Fulfulde by the protesters who claimed to be commercial motorcycle riders in Cameroon said the development affected working conditions in their country.

“We are commercial motorcycle riders in Cameroon. The hike in petrol price would force us to stop this work. The subsidy removal in Nigeria has affected our petrol price by inflicting untold hardship on the poor in the country’, one of them said in Fulfulde.

Penpushing further reports that as at the time of filing this report, the location and date  of the protest  could not ascertain, but a check through the TikTok account where Eons Intelligence posted the video from showed that it was uploaded on June 3, 2023

The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, it is recalled that in his inaugural speech, declared that the petrol subsidy regime was over, explaining that unfortunately, the budget before he assumed office is that no provision is there for fuel subsidy.

Penpushing also reports that investigation however, showed that petrol from Nigeria is alleged to be regularly smuggled into nearby countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Benin Republic, and as far as Sudan.
