A building in the palace of Ooni of Ife has been consumed by fire following a power surge which caused some electrical appliances to explode, but the fire did not destroy any cultural item and no casualty was recorded in the incident.
Penpushing reports that the incident occurred Friday night and did not spread beyond the affected building, as a result of the swift response by the combined efforts of the government fire service, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Fire Service and the Palace Emergency Control Unit.
The media aide of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Moses Olafare in a statement confirmed the incident explaining that the fire was triggered by an electricity power surge which caused some electrical appliances in the apartment to explode.
Penpushing further reports that the palace spokesperson affirmed that no life was lost, and that the fire did not spread beyond the affected building, adding that the fire did not destroy any cultural item.
