The former Governor of Anambra State Chinwoke Mbadinuju, has been reported dead on Tuesday at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness at the age of 78, as the family said his funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
Penpushing reports that his first son, Chetachi Mbadinuju, announced this in a statement made available adding that his father passed on peacefully, stating that at this trying the family prayed for God’s grace and mercy upon the deceased and those left behind
“With heavy hearts but utmost gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, uncle, friend and associate, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, a former governor of Anambra State and elder statesman’, the statement reads.
Penpushing further reports that the late politician served as the Governor of Anambra State between 29 May 1999 and 29 May 2003 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and sought re-election as Governor under the party platform, but was denied the party’s ticket under controversial circumstances amidst internal crisis within the party at the time.
The deceased after losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) ticket, defected to the now defunct Alliance for Democracy,(AD) where he later emerged the party’s Governorship candidate, but lost in the general election.
Penpushing also reports that Mbadinuju had served as a personal assistant to a former governor of old Enugu State, Jim Nwobodo, between 1979 and 1980, before playing the same role for former Nigeria’s Head of State,Alhaji Shehu Shagari, between 1980 and 1983.
