A final year student of the University of Benin, Edo State popularly called ‘Mayor has been shot dead by yet-to-be identified gunmen who attacked the students’ hall of residence at the university on Monday night
Penpushing reports that the Public Relations Officer of the university, Benedicta Ehanire, confirmed the sad incident in a statement on Tuesday, adding that the institution’s management was working closely with internal security units of the institution to prevent reoccurrence of similar attacks within the university’s premises.
“While commiserating with the family and colleagues of the late student, management enjoins other students to be calm as police as well as other security agencies are working hard to fish out and arrest the culprit,” she said.
Penpushing further reports that, a student of the institution, who preferred anonymity, explained that the victim was shot twice in the face, adding that he was the only person killed in the attack which occurred in his Hall Three Residence of the university.
