About 700 Indian students are facing deportation from Canada following discovery of fake letters of admission found with them for the educational institution, and this has led to receipt of deportation letters from the Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA)

Penpushing reports that the authorities in the North American country made the discovery which also showed that the affected students had applied for study visas via Education Migration Services (located in Jalandhar)

The service headed by Brijesh Mishra, was found to have charged more than Rs 16 lakh per student for all expenses, including admission fee to premier institute Humber College but excluding the air tickets and security deposits.

Penpushing further reports that the students had gone to Canada on a study basis in 2018-19  , but the fraud came to light when these students applied for permanent residency (PR) in Canada a development which led to scrutiny of their admission offer letters.

The Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) examined the documents based on which the visas were issued to the students and found the admission offer letters to be fake, while findings also showed that most of these students had already completed their studies.

Penpushing also reports that some of these students had gotten work permits and gained work experience as well, while it was when they applied for Permanent Residency they landed in trouble water.

The Indian Express reported that a Jalandhar-based consultant, who has been sending students to Canada for over  10 years said that in such frauds multiple factors are involved, from getting forged offer letters of colleges to providing forged fee payment receipts to students for seeking visas as visas are issued only after depositing the fee to the colleges

Penpushing reports that in same vein, consultant from Kapurthala noted that in this case most of the students were provided the offer letters of such colleges where they did not study eventually after landing in Canada.

The consultant added that the students were either shifted to other colleges or asked to wait for the next semester, that is, not in the semester which was shown in the documents at the time of applying for visas.

Penpushing further reports that the consultant pointed out that there is a huge rush of Indian students to Canada and such desperation of students is being capitalised by some fraudulent agents by conniving with a Canada-based private college.

Meanwhile, experts stated that this education fraud is one of its kind which came to the fore in Canada for the first time, stressing further that such a big fraud was a result of a large number of applicants to Canada.
