The Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ogun State Council has read riot act against fake Journalists discovered to be operating in Ota axis of the state under the guise of Federated Chapel, who also attempted to extort the Deputy Governor Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele
Penpushing reports that a statement by Secretary of the Union, Bunmi Adigun said the activities of the illegal body has been uncovered, stressing that their action was against the constitution of the union, emphasising that those behind the illegal Chapel are impostors
“The attention of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, has been drawn to unscrupulous activities of a group of impostors attempting to impersonate our identity as journalists while claiming to belong to Federated Chapel, Ota Zone’, Adigun wrote.
Penpushing further reports that the statement said the illegal group is being led by one Tunji Egbewunmi popularly called Octagon and took advantage to approach Ogun State Deputy Governor in attempt to extort her
“The Nigeria Union of Journalists is a very ethical organisation with her operations hinged on a clear principled ethos and organisational structure as enshrined in the constitution of the Union’, the statement reads
“As such, the Union is shocked and disappointed that some people could, under the guise of Federated Chapel, Ota Zone led by one Mr Tunji Egbewunmi popularly called Octagon, take advantage of the love and respect the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has for journalists to exhibit their disdain for constitutionality and flagrant disregard for ethics and ethos of the profession with a view to turning our enviable Union to a lawless fiefdom’, Adigun added
“For the records, Federated Chapel, Ota Zone is not known to us in NUJ Ogun Council as Zonal Chapels are alien to the constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. Therefore the fraudulent and illegal Zonal Chapel in Ota and its members are only trying to thrive on and create confusion through the inflections of one of the recognised Chapels in NUJ Ogun Council – Federated Chapel’
‘We therefore urge members of the public, government functionaries, corporate organizations, media stakeholders and eminent personalities not to have any dealings whatsoever with the group and also be a lot more wary, particularly in these times of the endemic infestation of fake journalists who are incidentally purveyors of fake news and owners of numbers of dishonourable sources who are relentlessly determined leverage on our name and brand identity to rip the unsuspecting general public’.
“In the same vein, we strongly advise that the public always elect to get in touch with the Secretariat of the State NUJ Council before agreeing to any relationship with such impostors and having dealing with any group whose letterheads bear NUJ’, the statement emphasized.
