The Nigeria Police Force has called on citizens and residents to ignore the news that parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been saturated with bombs, explaining that, the fake news was sponsored to create fear and heat up the polity.

Penpushing reports that, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi faulted the news in a statement issued on Saturday adding that such fake news, will do Nigeria no good as it will further create panic in citizens and residents of the country.

“We, therefore, urge residents of the FCT and Nigerians at large to disregard this fake news which was purportedly sponsored to create fear in our people and heat up the polity. We still reiterate that the Federal Capital Territory is safe and there is no imminent threat, neither is the FCT being saturated with bombs, as speculated in the news.

Penpushing further reports that, Adejobi emphasized that the police will continue to adopt all effective operational strategies to decimate the activities of non-state actors and other criminal elements in the country.

The American and United Kingdom governments, it is recalled have raised alarm over possible terrorists attack in the country, and in addition America authorities , approved the departure of its citizens willing to leave Nigeria due to the alert.

Penpuhing also reports that the United States of America (USA) embassy in the same vein suspended consular services in Abuja, but Nigerian government, however, advised citizens not to panic adding that security agencies were working hard to prevent any attack.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, in response to the security alerts condemned the America and United Kingdom advisories, Insisting that Nigeria, is safe, arguing that all countries have their own challenges.

Penpushing reports President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement through his media aide, , Garba Shehu,  urged Nigerians to be calm but vigilant, and equally advised the nation’s security establishments to be security conscious.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has been facing serious security challenges over a decade ago, with number of attacks linked to  Boko Haram and its affiliates in the North-east, armed bandits in the North-west and North-central and violent secessionists in the South-east.
