The Nigerian Government has commended Child Protection  Network(CPN) for adequate support extended to the administration in responding to cases of child abuse as well as creating a safer and better protective environment for the Nigerian Child.

Penpushing reports that, Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, made this known  when the leadership of the network paid her a courtesy call in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), noting that  the numerous roles of the network members across Nigeria was clear testimony of genuine partnership with the Nigerian government

The Minister assured the visiting team of her Ministry’s commitment to continue playing its coordinating roles over Child Protection Network (CPN) including accepting to fully serve in her capacity as Chief Host of the forthcoming conference.

‘Whatever we need to do keep the children safe is always a priority for me and my door is always open for initiative that can add value to children such as the Our Child Our Pride, the Minister added.

Penpushing further reports that, the National Coordinator of the network, Olakunle Sanni, earlier in his speech acknowledged the Minister’s role in the significant increase in the number of states to have domesticated the Child Rights Act (CRA).

‘At the beginning of this year, 11 states were yet to domesticate the CRA but today that figure has reduced to 5 and we hope that before you leave office the remaining five states would have domesticated the Act’, Sanni said.

‘As a Network under the supervision  of the Ministry, we are set to launch an initiative tagged ‘Our Child, Our Pride’ as well as commence an Annual National Child Protection Conference which is codenamed as ‘Child and Society Conference and Awards’, he added.

Penpushing also reports that, Chairperson of the network Nigeria Board of Trustees, Mrs Mariam Kombo-Ezeh, in her remarks appreciated that Minister for the fruitful engagement and show of commitment towards the protection and promotion of the rights of the Nigerian Child.

The chairperson pledged that the network, being a body comprising of both state and non-state actors, will continue to utilize the strength of its unique structure to improve the protection of children from all forms of abuse, exploitation and violence.
