A dilapidated school building, L. A. Primary School, Okitipupa in Okitipupa in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State has collapsed on Wednesday, killing a 52-year old carpenter identified as Ademola Lawrence.
Penpushing reports that, the deceased, a father of four children was said to be trying to help pull down one of the dilapidated structures, which was block of classroom, when the building suddenly collapsed and caved in on the carpenter.
The witnesses disclosed that, the victim was killed instantly, and was thereafter extricated from the rubble, but was found before help could reach him, adding that the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa.
Penpushing further reports that, Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, adding that a report had been lodged with the police detailing the cause of the death of the carpenter.
The police spokesman affirmed the accounts of the eyewitnesses, adding that the deceased was called to help renovate the building, but died when the dilapidated structure collapsed on him,
“He was a 52-year-old carpenter who was called to help renovate the building, but died when the dilapidated structure collapsed on him. We think it is just an accident and since it is a government school we expect that the authorities would do what is necessary Odunlami said
