The embattled former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who is currently facing charge of conspiracy to traffick a child to the United Kingdom to harvest his organs has been appointed, as a member of the Presidential campaign of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Penpushing reports that Ekweremad’s name was sighted as number 27 on the list of members of the council, signed by the national organizing secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Bature.
The political campaign for the 2023 general elections is expected to kick off on 28 September, while Ekweredamu, who was arrested alongside his wife on June 23 by the London Metropolitan Police is being detain in the country over the allegation
Penpushing further reports that the senator is expected to appear in court again on 31 October in continuation of his trial, while it is recalled that the wife, Beatrice has been granted bail on stringent conditions.
The prosecutor said the couple has a daughter, Sonia, who has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for some time, while the police added that they believe the plan was to use an organ from the boy on their daughter who needs a kidney transplant.
Penpushing also reports that, the offence against the Nigerian Senator, who is part of the 325 members of the campaign council is said to be violation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, according to the country’s authorities,
