The longest serving monarch of Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,Queen Elizabeth II has been confirmed dead on Thursday in the presence of her family members at 96
Penpushing reports that the royal family tweeted explaining that she died peacefully in Balmoral,and would be succeeded by her son Charles, Prince of Wales, who was named successor in 2018 by the Queen at the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
“The Queen died peacefully in Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen Consort will remain in Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the Royal Family tweeted.
Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that, the deceased marked her 70th year as Queen of Britain, during which she asked that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, be addressed as Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes king.
“And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,” she said.
The deceased popularly called “Mama Charlie” by foreigners will be remembered among many things for the leadership she provided even as a young teenager. In 1940, as a 14-year-old, she made her first radio broadcast during the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC’s) Children’s Hour, addressing other children who had been evacuated from the cities because of the war.
“We are trying to do all we can to help our gallant sailors, soldiers, and airmen, and we are trying, too, to bear our own share of the danger and sadness of war. We know, every one of us, that in the end all will be well. I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong” she had said
Penpushing also reports that Queen Elizabeth II born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor on 21 April, 1926 in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth), and was delivered by Caesarean section at her maternal grandfather’s London house, Bruton Street, Mayfair.
The longest serving Queen of London was baptised by the Anglican Archbishop of York, Cosmo Gordon Lang, in the private chapel of Buckingham Palace on 29 May,and was named Elizabeth after her mother, Alexandra after her paternal grandfather’s mother, who had died six months before she was born, and Mary after her paternal grandmother.
