The Child Protection Network(CPN) in Nigeria has elected new national executive officers led by Olakunle Sanni and other eight members, who were sworn in on Wednesday, a ceremony attended by members across the country.

Penpushing reports that, other members include- Beatrice Linus Dung (Deputy National coordinator),- Olorunfemi Olusegun(National Secretary)- Riskat Omolara Yusuf (Assistant National Secretary)- Erinfolami-Daniel Anthonia(National Treasurer).- Joy Daberechi Onuoha (National Financial Secretary)- Salma Ahmad Danbappha (National Legal Adviser) and- Michael Gbarale (National Public Relations Officer)

The National Coordinator, Olakunle Sanni in his acceptance speech said the election and ceremony marked a historical moment in the life of the Network, adding that for him to be part of this history was a great privilege for him and his team.

‘I sincerely thank all the leaders in CPN right from our most respected trustees, to the immediate past national executives and all the 36 state executives including the FCT. I equally thank our passionate members across the nation for the shower of love and trusting us with this mandate’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that, Sanni admitted that that, the task before the new leadership is enormous but not insurmountable, adding that the executives will take advantage of the huge resources around us to build the network to greater height

‘We will take advantage of the huge resources around us to build a CPN of our dreams just as we are going to embark on numerous programmes, projects and activities to tackle the various categories of abuse, violence and exploitation children are often faced with’, he emphasised.

‘As a National body, we shall revisit and reintroduce the structure introduced by UNICEF at inception though this may come with some changes in line with realities of the present day. The place of state actors and private business organisations in fulfillment of children’s rights to protection cannot be emphasized; therefore we are determined to get all relevant government ministries, department and agencies as well as key business firms to become active part of CPN once again’, he added.

‘As we begin this 3-year journey of taking CPN to greater heights, I want to reassure you of my team’s commitment to see that we deliver on many of your expectations, even if not all, such that at the end you will have no regret whatsoever for giving to us this important task’, Sanni assured.

‘Our topmost desire is to make good use of this golden opportunity to contribute towards building a society where every child (whether boy or girl) irrespective of the culture, ability, social background, ethnicity, colour and economic status are well protected and become safe from intentional and unintentional harm’, he stated.
