Five persons were on Saturday killed, and three others sustained injuries in a road crash involving a Howo Sino truck and a Mazda car, at Day Waterman junction on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway of Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed this, adding that the accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. at Day Waterman turning, on the expressway, in Obafemi Owode Local Government area of the state.
The agency spokesman alleged that the accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the driver of the truck, with registration number T-14214LA, adding that the truck driver made a dangerous U-turn, without observation.
Penpushing further reports that, Akinbiyi explained that the Mazda car, with registration number KRD 975 HJ, which was on top speed rammed into the truck, adding that nine people, comprising four men and five women were involved in the accident, while the driver of the truck ran away.
The Public Relations Officer said as at the time of filing this report, the injured victims were taken to State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta and Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased persons were deposited at State Hospital, Ijaye morgue and Idera Hospital morgue, Sagamu.
Penpushing also reports that, Akinbiyi in a statement commiserated with the families of the deceased, appealing to articulated vehicle drivers to observe safety rules and avoid an overbearing attitude while driving.
