The son of late politician and business mogul, Chief Moshood Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993, annulled presidential election, Kola Abiola has emerged as  presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2023 general election to hold in Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that, Abiola at the primary of the party polled 2,097 votes to defeat other candidates which include Usman Bugaje who recorded 813 votes, Patience Key (329) and Gboluga Mosugu(263)  to pick the ticket.

The collation of was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while record has it that a total of 3,625 delegates were accredited with 3,519 valid votes and 141 invalid votes

Penpushing further reports that National Chairman of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP),Falalu Bello whie speaking before the collation of the results, said the delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) voted for the aspirants from their respective states.

The chairman explained that, this was done to save cost, and make the process nearer to the delegates adding that it was with the permission of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

“We want to make the whole process nearer to the delegates. The delegates are in the states. So that is why we decided that the primary election will take place in the 36 states and the FCT. Definitely, having it in the states, rather than bringing them here, is more convenient for them. We set up 37 committees headed by the nominees from the national executive committee in the states along with the state organising secretaries to conduct this exercise in the states,” Bello said.

Penpushing also reports that, the party boss  said the aspirants had promised to support whoever emerged as the party’s candidate, explaining that  the party decided not to zone its presidential ticket to any of the six geo-political zones across the country.

The national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party(PRP) emphasized that this decision was in ensuring that the party produced   a candidate who is capable, competent and enjoyed wide acceptability across the country.
